Frequently Asked Questions

Babylon is a decentralized protocol that enables native Bitcoin staking directly on the Bitcoin blockchain without intermediaries. The protocol implements a novel shared-security architecture that extends Bitcoin’s security model to the broader decentralized ecosystem. Through its architecture, BTC holders can participate in multi-staking operations while maintaining their assets on Bitcoin, providing verifiable security guarantees to Bitcoin Secured Networks (BSNs).

New blocks on Babylon are proposed by validators. To enable Babylon to run seamlessly, validators need the technical capabilities to offer a secure, always on infrastructure.

Not everyone is able to do this. Some token holders participate indirectly by delegating the tokens they have to a validator. Validators are running a service for delegators. They typically charge a fee to cover their operational costs.

By delegating BTC, you help secure the network. You get part of the rewards provided by the protocol for this assistance. If you are planning to hold on to BTC for some time, delegating will help you accumulate more Babylon token (BABY) while contributing to the health of the network.

You are not giving away ownership of BTC by delegating. As a validator, stakefish will never have the ability to move your BTC.

The Babylon network includes slashing as part of its safety mechanism. If your chosen finality providers (BTC staking providers) misbehave, your staked assets will be slashed, with a maximum slashing rate of 0.1%. Learn more in their Litepaper.
